But what's the real story? It’s not as straightforward as it seems.
Initially, it seemed like just a clash with board member Helen Toner over a critical paper. It appears that in the weeks leading up to the tumultuous events, Sam was reportedly attempting to oust Helen Toner from the board due to an academic paper she wrote, which critiqued OpenAI.
Helen shared this shocking quote:
The board’s mission is to ensure that the company creates artificial intelligence that “benefits all of humanity,” and if the company was destroyed, she said, that could be consistent with its mission.
But there's more to the story. Rumors suggest Altman's involvement in other projects, like Tigris and a venture with Jony Ive, might have clashed with OpenAI's core mission.
