Is Snapchat's My AI Chatbot a Privacy Nightmare Waiting to Happen?
🛑 So, Snapchat's My AI chatbot is in hot water with the UK's data watchdog, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
The ICO is concerned that the chatbot, which is designed to mimic human conversation, poses a privacy risk, especially to younger users aged 13-17.
Snapchat, which has 21 million users in the UK, could face a shutdown of this feature if they don't comply with data protection rules.
The provisional findings of our investigation suggest a worrying failure by Snap to adequately identify and assess the privacy risks to children and other users before launching My AI.
The company says they've done a "robust legal and privacy review," but the ICO's not convinced just yet…

Well, a recent study led by Soheil Feizi at the University of Maryland has some unsettling news…
Current AI watermarking methods are far from foolproof.
The team found that not only can watermarks be easily removed ("washed out," as Feizi puts it), but fake watermarks can also be added to human-generated images.
This is a big deal, especially with the rise of deepfakes and manipulated media.
Even tech giants like OpenAI and Google, who have been pushing watermarking tech, might need to go back to the drawing board…
We don’t have any reliable watermarking at this point. We broke all of them.
I am asking myself, are we too reliant on tech solutions like watermarking to combat the spread of fake news and manipulated media?
